Konark, a Puri district location, is also known as Konaditya. Konark is most well-known for its Sun temple. UNESCO has designated it as a major World heritage site and tourist attraction since 1984. Anyone who has ever been to Konark would remember it fondly.
KONARK SUN TEMPLE
It is easy to see the importance of this ancient heritage from the description of Konark temple by Rabindranath Tagore, “Here the language of stone exceeds the language of man”. An excellent example of Odia architecture is often called the Black Pagoda of Odisha. What we see today in Sun temple Konark reflects the destruction of a massive structure that once enjoyed a great reputation for its beauty and art. The temple was built by King Narasimhadeva during the thirteenth century. Its shape is a large chariot carrying the Lord Sun. The history of Konark is fascinating, and it’s worth learning more about its great architecture.
KONARK SEA BAY
The Sun temple of Konark is just 2 miles from the sea beach. Visitors love to spend time on beautiful beaches. Konark beaches are quieter than those at Puri and are considered one of the best beaches in the world. The distance between Puri and Konark is just 35kms. MUSEUM
A small museum is located in Konark, which is maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. The museum houses an impressive collection of ancient sculptures. The museum is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM every day, except Friday when it is closed.
RAMACHANDI TEMPLE
Ramachandi Temple can be found south-west from the Konark temple, near Kushabhadra River. Ramchandi is the place’s name. The temple is not only a sacred site, but it is also a popular spot for picnicking.
KURUMA
KURUMA IS A TINY VILLAGE WHICTHATFAMOUS FOR BUDDHIST REMAINS. SITUATED AT 8 KMS DISTANCE OF THE SUN TEMPLE, KURUMA VILLAGE HAS KEPT THE IMAGE OF LORD BUDDHA SEATED IN BHUMISPARSA MUDRA ALONG WITH THE IMAGES OF HERUKA THAT HAS BEEN FOUND AFTER EXCAVATION ARE INCLUDED AS PLACES OF TOURIST INTEREST IN KONARK.
